Meet Jaime Sabella
Chasing dreams has never looked so graceful.
Jaime Sabella, a former Ole Miss student and current Flagler College student, is paving her way through the St. Augustine art scene with her talent for illustration and graphic design.
While attending Ole Miss, Sabella discovered a passion for the arts at The Lily Pad boutique in Oxford Mississippi.
“I started managing a boutique in my old college town where I would wholesale buy everything for the store. I realized everything was just so cheaply made. So I was like, ‘Why don’t I make this stuff myself?’” Sabella said.
Sabella started designing merchandise and crafting displays to showcase holidays and events for the boutique. This pushed her to see herself as the artist she desired to become.
“I’ve always known that I could do it, but I didn’t ever believe that I could pursue it fully as a career until I was an adult,” Sabella said.
After receiving her AA from Ole Miss in 2022, Sabella started her career as an art teacher in South Carolina, at Pelion Middle School.

“I probably would have adopted a kid if I was still there. I worked in a Title I school. It’s the highest level of poverty in the area, so coming to art was an outlet for a lot of these kids,” Sabella said.
Working as an art teacher with underprivileged children showed her the impact that art can have on someone’s life.
“It really did help me figure things out: like, these kids have nothing, and they are really trying. It took me like to that point in my life where I thought, I need to do exactly what I want to do with my life because this is the only opportunity that I have to do it,” Sabella said.
This led Sabella to Flagler College to grow her knowledge of graphic design. The small and close-knit setting of Flagler is helping her evolve into a more confident artist.
“I definitely didn’t get the support that I have gotten here at Ole Miss. I didn’t realize when I was coming here that the classes were so small, but I was so happily surprised when that happened. I’ve had the same for teachers this entire time, and I have made so much more of an impact,” Sabella said.
Sabella’s new world motivates her to share her creations with the community. Her friends help inspire new artwork.
“I did this cowboy hat with little feet and cowboy boots coming out. It was for my friend’s birthday, and she loved it! I made it a print and a birthday card with that design, and now, when I’m at markets, it’s one of the things I can never keep. At every market people love it!,” Sabella said.
Sabella creates dynamic drawings that reflect her warm, playful personality. Her designs include vibrant colors, elegant typefaces, and sleek illustrations.

“Just really like my style. I don’t see a lot of my hand-drawing style. I like to put my touch and everything, it keeps me going,” Sabella said.
